Soft Surfing Prosthesis

Soft Surfing Prosthesis - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

About this project

A soft prothesis sleeve with an off-the-shelf plastic paddle to help paddle and swim during surfing.

The challenge

Max needed a soft prosthesis that was durable enough to withstand the ocean and that allowed fluid movement.

Who it helps

Max joined TOM through the "Next Step Foundation." He works at an advertising agency in 'Reuveni Pridan' as a graphic designer. Max asked us to design a prosthesis for him, with an attachment for paddling in water and surfing.

How it works

This solution offers a durable soft waterproof option that allows Max full arm movement in the water.

We concentrated on the development of a soft prothesis that had a modular end piece option. In Max's case, he pairs the soft sleeve with an off-the-shelf paddle.

Tools needed

sewing machine

scissors
