Arm Prosthesis - GripEase

Arm Prosthesis - GripEase - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

The loss of both hands poses multiple challenges to the individual's ability to perform basic daily tasks, such as writing, drawing, and eating using utensils.

Who it helps

This project was designed and developed with Need Knower, Malak. Malak has lost both her right and left hands and hopes to achieve greater independence in writing, drawing, and eating.

How it works

The GripEase end unit combines 3D-printed and off-the-shelf parts to create an attachment to the TOM Parametric Arm Prosthesis, enabling individuals with bilateral hand loss to hold a pen for writing and drawing or to grip a fork and spoon for eating.

This is an adjustable gripper attachment that connects to the TOM Parametric Arm Prosthesis, enabling an individual with bilateral hand loss to hold a pen for writing and drawing or to grip a fork and spoon for eating.
