Tray Holder End Unit - TOM Arm Prosthesis

Tray Holder End Unit - TOM Arm Prosthesis - open-source assistive technology prototype by the BGU community

The challenge

An arm amputation poses multiple challenges to the amputee’s ability to perform basic daily tasks such as using both hands to hold a plate or use the oven.

Who it helps

This project was designed and developed with Noam, below-the-elbow amputee who hoped to achieve greater independence in the kitchen.

How it works

This end unit has an ability to hold an oven tray grabber, which helps grab a hot or cold oven tray in and out of the oven. It also has the ability to hold plate and that lets the other arm to be free.

This is an adjustable kitchen plate/tray holder attachment that connects to the TOM Parametric Arm Prosthesis enabling an amputee to hold a plate or use the oven.
