TeraBridges Motorized TMT

TeraBridges Motorized TMT - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

Many young children with mobility impairments lack affordable powered mobility devices due to high costs. They may struggle to push standard TMT wheels independently. Our Motorized TMT offers a safe, stable, low-cost solution for mobility and independence.

Who it helps

Toddlers and preschoolers with mobility impairment at Child's Way- a daycare facility for medically fragile children located in Pittsburgh, PA

How it works

We adapt a 3D-printed TMT with motors into a safe, low-cost mobility solution. Without changing the TMT design, motors drive Rhino wheels attached to the TMT wheels. A joystick controls motion while the electronics limit speed for a safe, stable operation.

We are adapting a 3D-printed TMT with motors to create a safe, low-cost, and easy-to-build mobility solution. Children control movement with a joystick, while automated electronics limit speed for safe and stable operation.
