The Makers at TOM: Hadassah set out to develop a virtual/augmented reality program to do the same thing - that is, to mirror a patient’s perception of the world. If the patient has a healthy right hand, when using the headset with a phone in it, it will seem as if he is using his left (or problematic) hand.
Renana found that the traditional treatment known as “mirror therapy,” where a patient uses a mirror for 30 minutes a day to trick the brain into thinking they are moving their affected limb without pain, doesn't work because patients don't use it.
Renana Adani, a Physiotherapist at Hadassah Medical Center, was looking for a more fun and inspiring way for her patients who have limited use of one of their limbs, to improve their mobility.
The build files for VR Mirror Box are free to download from this page - open source, shared by TOM: Tikkun Olam Makers.
