Wehab! Healing together

Wehab! Healing together - open-source assistive technology concept by the Hadassa community

About this project

Wehab is both a formal and an informal intervention system designed to be utilized by people with hemiparesis/unilateral paresis and persona with physical and/or cognitive challenges in their process of rehabilitation and recovery. In addition to formal community resources (therapists/agents and agencies), people with physical and cognitive challenges tend to rely on informal social and online networks as sources of support in the recovery/habilitation process. Informal social networks can play an important role in the habilitation/rehabilitation of the challenged individual. Alternative modes of social support are actively sought and utilized by the disabled and reliance on those informal resources are enhanced in the absence or limited use/access of formal rehabilitation intervention. Wehab is a set of interactive, muliplayer interactive games, based on Mudra wearable IOT technologies that interact with AR/VR headsets, smartwatches, smartphones/tablets and other connected devices. The games are personalized for each individual client, and are designed to help habilitate/rehabilitate effected body areas/musculature with subtle movements and gestures. wehab includes therapeutic games that are dependent on teamwork, that are designed to promote cooperation, community and communication, help establish a positive therapeutic environment while providing a fun, challenging approach to rehabilitation. Through interaction with the cloud, both therapists and significant others can monitor the challenged individuals's progress in realtime, and make necessary modifications to the platform in order to help the challenged individual meet her/his therapeutic objectives. Wehab's gamefication approach to rehabilitation therapy, transforms therapeutic objectives into natural, fun and intuitive "as if" real-life experiences. The wearable band empowers the challenged person to control the therapeutic game, as if she/he was interacting in real life. The extremities are free to drag and drop, pinch, select, and navigate. Wehab extends the body/mind with the ultimate controller – our extermities. Wehab introduces an extrinsic reward/applause system (based on game mechanics) to non-game/rehabilitative content in order to engage and motivate challenged individuals to participate and complete the activity. wehab is intended to compensate the lack of intrinsic motivation towards a learning activity.

The challenge

Her challenge is to formulate and develop a designated social networking platform for people with physical and/or cognitive challenges. The network will incorporate physical/cognitive/language et. al. therapeutic exercises that can be performed in partnership with other challenged individuals and/or with the person's community either on-site or in a "virtual" distance.
