CPXbox

CPXbox - open-source assistive technology working model by the Vanderbilt University community

About this project

Our project was to find a way to mount the switches in an adjustable and stable manner that could grow with her through the years. In the future, foot pedals could be added to the frame, and the cross bar could be made adjustable in order to adjust the width.

Meant to assist those unable to function an ordinary Xbox controller. Small buttons on the Xbox controller are replaced with large adaptive switches which can be easily accessed.

Solid, adjustable frame for Adaptive Xbox controller that is easily moved into and out of position by locking wheels. The frame contains two bases, the top of which can hold adaptive switches. The crossbar between the bases holds an adjustable mount with a hinge to adjust the height and angle of the tray.

The challenge

The small buttons on the Xbox controller are largely inaccessible to her. Ivy and her family saw that Microsoft came out with an adaptive controller which can replace the small buttons with large switches.

The goal is to make an accessible gaming controller that Ivy can use with different parts of her body (hands, head and feet) and play video games with her friends and father.

Who it helps

Ivy is a passionate academic and gamer. She loves playing Xbox with her family, but has difficulty using the accessible controller on the market due to her Cerebral Palsy.
