When Kate trains patients, their immobile foot drags on the floor, making walking difficult. She is in need of an easy to use, versatile device that reduces friction between the foot and the ground.
Kate Lewis is a physical therapist at the Pi Beta Phi Clinic. Kate works on gait training with patients who have lost mobility of one leg in order to strengthen their other leg. She hopes to build patients' confidence and strength so they can walk again.
Our device, offering a "toe rocker" shape, helps patients feel more confident applying weight on their non-dominant leg, while also ensuring their leg is not dragging on the floor during gait training.
Our team designed a 3D printed device with adjustable straps that can quickly be attached to patients' non-dominant legs. The device reduces friction between the foot and ground, while also granting the foot a bigger range of motion while dragging.
