Fly Ball

Fly Ball - open-source assistive technology concept by the Northeastern University community

The challenge

Although many students at Kennedy Day School love sports, their physical impairments can limit their participation. For example, some students are unable to hold or swing a baseball bat, which can be frustrating as they have a passion for the sport.

Who it helps

Kennedy Day School is a K-12 special education institution that supports students with learning disabilities or physical impairments in their learning and developmental needs.

How it works

The machine enables students to control the baseball bat swing with the push of a button, and adjust the speed of the swing to hit the ball further. Now students can enjoy the sport they love rather than being only able to watch.

I am offering a machine that can swing a baseball bat with just the push of a button. This machine allows the baseball to be hit into the air, as if someone were manually holding and swinging the bat.
