Adaptable T-Ball Set

Adaptable T-Ball Set - open-source assistive technology prototype by the University of Pennsylvania community

About this project

Auto T-ball provides a way for HMS students to play baseball. A button is connected to a motor that rotates a bat to hit a ball on an easily reproducible t-ball setup made of PVC pipes. Everyone, regardless of physical ability, can play baseball.

The challenge

The students would like more different activities for their gym class that everyone can participate in - regardless of ability. This project is an adaptable baseball set that also allows for modularity of many types of switch-adaptable buttons.

Who it helps

HMS School serves students with Cerebral Palsy, and these students are wheelchair bound/have limited mobility. They have activities and class at the school - including gym, art, movies, games, music etc.

How it works

Auto t-ball allows any HMS student to play baseball by developing a solution such that only a button needs to be pressed to rotate a bat and hit the ball. We developed a solution where any HMS student can play baseball using various switch buttons; modular
