QuickClamp

QuickClamp - open-source assistive technology prototype by the University of Alabama community

About this project

The Quick Clamp is a universal accessory for attaching the user's wheelchair frame to any motorised scooter of choice. It can be adjusted to different wheelchair frame sizes and scooter widths.

The challenge

Lisa and other student-athletes noted that their current mounting parts add on weight that is discomforting to wheel around with, take too much time and effort to put on, are costly to purchase and replace, and dig into their legs causing bruises.

Who it helps

The QuickClamp is designed for wheelchair users who use motorized scooter attachments regularly and face issues with their current mounting parts.

How it works

This device can be assembled within minutes and takes seconds to mount to the wheelchair compared to other methods. It does not remain on the wheelchair frame after use, which prevents injury. It is relatively inexpensive to produce.
