Fall Alert Ring

Fall Alert Ring - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Arizona State University community

The challenge

The Fall Alert Ring project is essential because falls are a leading cause of injury and death among the people with disabilities, medically vulnerable and elderly populations. Quick detection and response can significantly reduce the severity of injuries.

Who it helps

Elderly individuals, People with disabilities, mobility issues or medical conditions, Rehabilitation patients, Caregivers and family members, Nursing homes and assisted living facilities, Lone workers in hazardous environments.

How it works

We are designing a ring that can be worn on the first finger and has a button. The need knower, whenever is at the risk of falling or in an uncomfortable situation, they can press the button and an alert is issued to the saved contacts via their mobile.

The ring has an ESP32 microcontroller that has a bluetooth module in-built. There is also a button on the ring that can be pressed by the user. The ESP32's bluetooth module connects to the user's phone and can send alert notfication to designated contacts.
