Parameterized Prosthetic Leg Cover

Parameterized Prosthetic Leg Cover - open-source assistive technology prototype by the University of Alabama community

The challenge

Michael had previous issues when wearing pants with his prosthetic leg, as the size discrepancy often led to awkward flapping in the wind and excess fabric getting caught. This led to pants tearing in certain parts and an overall unaesthetic look.

Who it helps

Prosthetic leg users with above knee and through knee amputations.

How it works

The leg cover will fill the pant leg, leading to less noticeability of the difference between the legs and preventing damage to long pants. Parameterizing the design allows users to input their measurements and get an autogenerated leg cover.

A parametric 3D printed leg cover that has two halves surrounding the prosthetic leg. The inner portion outlines the shape of the prosthetic leg, while the outer portion outlines the shape of his other leg, filling the gap in space.
