Prosthetic Limb Stabilizer for Cycling

Prosthetic Limb Stabilizer for Cycling - open-source assistive technology working model by the University of Pittsburgh community

The challenge

Matthew is a very active above-the-knee amputee who enjoys biking, but struggles to keep his prosthetic stable while riding. He requested we try to design a component to add on to his bike that may allow his knee and foot to remain stable while riding.

Who it helps

Transtibial and transferal amputees who enjoy biking and struggle to keep their prosthetic leg/foot stable while cycling.

How it works

Our solution is a foot plate with an extra backing and front foot covering that will keep the prosthetic stable during biking to prevent unsanctioned motion of the prosthetic leg.

Our solution will provide AK and BK amputees with a supportive 3-D printed device that can be easily attached to their personal bike in order to assist in keeping their prosthetic stable during biking.
