Mal-Kar Walker Frame

Mal-Kar Walker Frame - open-source assistive technology prototype by the 2021 TOM Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) community

About this project

By adding small changes to the frame such as colors,2 wheels and a

seat, the frame will look like a child’s car, so when the young child is

Around they can play with the frame and turn it into something fun

for them both.

This new take on equipment is for those who use the walker frame and feel that

not only have they lost their strength to walk but also the ability to play and interact with the younger generation and to create a positive impact on

childhood memories.

By transforming the frame into an exciting and less intimidating

object for children, it will bring them together through play and

bridge gaps in communication between generations and reduce the

feeling off loneliness and segregation

This design is made in the memory of my grandmother and to other

old people who lose the ability to commute and walk from place to

place independently. Many elderly people rely on the use of a

Zimmer frame walker, which my design is based on.

How it works

Walking frame with a twist is one of the participating projects of the 2021 Global Innovation Challenge.
