*Old model * TOM Prosthesis - Lightweight customizable prosthetic arm

*Old model * TOM Prosthesis - Lightweight customizable prosthetic arm - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM Israel community community

About this project

The product offers an inexpensive, quick, adaptable, and durable

custom parametric prosthesis for below-the-elbow amputees.

The challenge

Most amputees do not use their prosthesis at home, they are heavy, they need to be charged, they are not suitable for all needs. The team's challenge was to create a comfortable, home-handy prosthesis, that will suit needed house chores. Noam's challenge has been expanded to include additional Need Knowers with other challenges related to daily living, sports, music and more.

Who it helps

Noam Guez is 19 years old, he was wounded as a soldier in the IDF from a grenade. He lost his left hand and the sight in his right eye.

How it works

Who

Below-the-elbow amputees who are unable to acquire an expensive prosthesis or an easy and comfortable short-term solution to enable basic daily activities.

Why

For amputees, a prosthesis is often a necessity. However, there are no effective low-cost custom prostheses available on the market.

Our manufacturing process is cheap, simple, and fast, so any maker space (or a TOM community) can produce it.

What

Our solution offers an inexpensive, quick, adaptable, and durable custom parametric prosthesis for below-the-elbow amputees.

How

Getting a customized prosthesis today requires a lot of time and money, and most need to be replaced every few years. Our product utilizes a parametric design to allow easy personalized adjustments to achieve a lasting, comfortable fit for all users.
