Open Source Raspberry Pi Seizure Monitor

About this project

This device is for an epileptic person, where the seizure incorporates short, violent seizure motions, an increase in heart rate, muscular tension, and possibly a fall. This device utilizes a wearable device for the patient, with sensors sending signals to a base station in the care home via wireless protocols (wifi/Bluetooth). The software onboard (OpenSeizureDetector) enables the carer to modify trigger sensitivity and the ability to detect a seizure or fall. The Raspberry Pi then sends an alarm signal to the carer/s via RF transmitters to alert of a potential seizure.

The challenge

The main issue is that his parents may both be outside working in the garden or shed, while he is inside and has a stroke - the parents and carers need to know he is having a stroke if they are on site.

Who it helps

Ashley is an epileptic who is under intensive care by both his parents and hired carers. His seizures are random, varying in length and can often result in injury.
