Project Grippo

Project Grippo - open-source assistive technology prototype by the 2021 TOM Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) community

About this project

The Grippo is an aesthetic appealing magnetic ring with

a small rubber suction cup on it. The small rubber suction cup helps

users grasp small and flat items firmly. The magnet on the ring helps

attract tiny metal items such as coins.

The ring helps users pick up small pieces of items more easily

without grasping hard. It provides great convenience for the Need

knower to hold up small objects, thus building their self-esteem and

training their fine motor skills in the long run.

Who it helps

Our Need-Knowers are people who lack fine motor skills such as cerebral palsy

patients. They have difficulty controlling their muscles and performing

precise manipulation tasks like picking up small items.Simple games

like puzzles usually attract them.

It is difficult for our Need knower to locate and pick up small objects,

They especially drop items more easily and frequently. They have

difficulty handling objects and physically accessing objects.

The project benefits them in everyday life.
