SAM - Accessible Exoskeleton for Hypermobility

SAM - Accessible Exoskeleton for Hypermobility - open-source assistive technology working model by the Carnegie Mellon University community

The challenge

Sam experiences an onset of pain when sudden standing after prolonged sitting due to joint pain partially attributed to muscle and ligament weakness.

Who it helps

Sam is one of our friends, a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. He also is an individual who has hypermobility.

How it works

This solution ensures that Sam moves his legs regularly when sitting, preventing them from being shocked and giving out when he suddenly stands up.

We are creating a wearable, vibrating device that reminds Sam to move his legs when he is sitting for a prolonged period of time.

Tools needed

PC or MAC I7 +

sewing machine

set of needles

Soldering set

Cable stripper
