Arm Exoskeleton for Rehabilitation

Arm Exoskeleton for Rehabilitation - open-source assistive technology concept by the New Jersey Institute of Technology community

The challenge

This project will address the need for assistive rehabilitation in patients with hand, arm, and shoulder disabilities and allowing them the ease to complete daily tasks such as cooking and writing or painting with much more assitance.

Who it helps

The DASH is a self-report questionnare used to measure disability and symptoms of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders. It was developed jointly by the Institute for Work & Health and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

How it works

The project will incorporate a glove-like mechanism that fits around the hand with adjustable finger length and with an attachment to the elbow for added support in arm movement. This will utilize adjustability sliders to fit most arm and hand size.

Our project will be an adjustable exoskeleton that will assist those with disabilities in the arm, shoulder, and hand regions and be used for both rehabilitation and for assistance in performing daily activities.
