Accessible Bra for People with Limited Hand Mobility

Accessible Bra for People with Limited Hand Mobility - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

The challenge

Bras are an important piece of clothing. However, the design of bras proves to be unfriendly even for people with full access to their hands. For women who has limited hands mobility, putting on a bra independently is still difficult.

Who it helps

Ruby is a 14 years old girl who has trouble using one side of her body. She especially experiences difficulties in putting on a bra without assistance as the current bra design is not user friendly to people without two hands mobility.

How it works

Our design allows the users to single-handedly put on any bra of their desire without external help or bulky contraptions. The modification preserves the comfort of bras and stays invisible under the person's garment.

Our solution is a simple and cheap modification to any bras. It consists of a knot mechanism, which holds the bra straps in place and velcro attachment on the bra straps to allow for easy single-hand attachment and detachment.
