Page Turner - Page Turner for people with spinal muscular atrophy

Page Turner - Page Turner for people with spinal muscular atrophy - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

The challenge is to be able to read a book without hands and without anyone's help.

Who it helps

Rivka has always loved reading. But due to her disability (SPA), she can't use her hands to hold a book and turn the pages. She needs help from someone else if she wants to read.

How it works

The wheel attached to a servomotor will lift the page and leave enough space to allow the other servomotor to turn the page. The two other servomotors will be there to hold the book in place when put on the book holder.

We are offering a book holder equipped with a mechanism that can lift and turn a page. It would be activated with eye detection using a USB webcam connected to a laptop.
