Flute Passive Prosthetic, Book Page Turner

Flute Passive Prosthetic, Book Page Turner - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

About this project

Both devices have been developed to help two children reach their full potential in school activities. The flute prosthetic attachment helps one little girl play a pentatonic flute alongside her classmates. The standing desk assists a hemiplegic girl do schoolwork.

The challenge

Develop a passive prosthetic for Lucy to cover the bottom three holes of her flute in all combinations. Develop a book page turner that suits Vivienne's needs.

Who it helps

The first need knower for this project is Lucy, a six year old girl who has a short arm. She is looking for a way to play the flute, so she needs an attachment to her arm that has all the combinations of coverings for the bottom three holes of the flute. The second project is for Vivienne who is a hemiplegic and needs a book page turner custom to her.
