Shoelace Solution for Above-the-knee Prosthetic Users

Shoelace Solution for Above-the-knee Prosthetic Users - open-source assistive technology concept by the University of Virginia community

The challenge

This project provides a solution for users who are not able to tie shoelaces without sitting down.

Who it helps

Potential users of the solution include prosthetic users who have trouble balancing on one side to tie shoelaces standing up.

How it works

The solution allows the user to tighten shoelaces with the extendable pole without sitting down or losing balance.

Our conceptual solution includes a shoelace device that allows laces to be tightened with an extendable pole that can reach the user's feet while standing.
