Spencer

Spencer - open-source assistive technology concept by the Leffell School community

About this project

Spencer told them that he wanted to create a tray table that would attach to his wheelchair and could rotate at 270 degrees so it's out of his way when he doesn't need it. Together, they brainstormed and brought to life the optimal design for the product. They used copper piping to build the structure of the table and figured out how it would attach to his chair. They then figured what size would be best for the table itself. They assembled everything, connecting the table to the foundation with a 270-degree hinge.

The challenge

It is hard for him to use his computer while in his wheel-chair, so he wanted the team to make him a tray that could rotate out his way when not in use.

Who it helps

Spencer is a 16-year-old in Mamaroneck, New York with Cerebral Palsy
