Upscale

Upscale - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Yale University community

The challenge

Individuals in wheelchairs often need to go to the doctor or the gym in order to weigh themselves. The commercial market has some options, but they are hundreds of dollars and giant. Individuals with wheelchairs should be able to access home scales too!

Who it helps

Individuals in wheelchairs who want to keep track of their weight, but don't have easy access to a scale that works for them.

How it works

The upscale gives anyone the option to buy a scale that works for them.

An electric scale tailored to people in wheelchairs. The scale has a platform wide enough for the wheelchairs and is close enough to the ground for people to just roll onto it. It allows the user to see their weight both on a physical screen and an app.
