Voice-Activated Door Opener

Voice-Activated Door Opener - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

The challenge

Originally, this project was developed to help a paralyzed man open his door. People with paralysis lose a lot of autonomy in their daily lives, one example being opening and closing their doors. This project allows greater autonomy and mobility.

Who it helps

Potential users for this project are anyone who has difficulty physically opening their doors. This solution allows them to simply give voice commands to the door rather than physically opening it.

How it works

This solution allows the user to open the door based on his voice rather than physical strength and mobility. He will be able to navigate throughout his home on his own based on speaking the words "open" and "close".

A voice-activated system that wheels the door open and closed based on voice commands from the user.
