3D Printed Foldable Permobile Tray

3D Printed Foldable Permobile Tray - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Emory University community

The challenge

There are limited low-tech options for tray tables for individuals with limited range of motion. This project is not only a portable, sturdy desk, it is also lightweight can be opened and closed easily in more than one way.

Who it helps

Anyone who desires a foldable tray that can be mounted on their Permobil wheelchair.

How it works

This solution meets all of Gracie’s needs: it’s foldable, lightweight, and self-operable; it has smooth, rounded edges for comfort and a snug fit shaped to fit her body; it has an opening mechanism that works with her range of motion.

This 3D printed tray folds at the middle, and lays across armrests of a Permobil wheelchair. The desk attatches to the Permobil rails. To open, there is a hook to grab. To close, there is an portruding piece that fits snug into a slot on the underside.
