Accessible Taki

Accessible Taki - open-source assistive technology prototype by the BGU community

The challenge

Taki is a super popular card game, but it uses only visual colors and numbers. Right now, visually impaired and blind kids cannot play it without asking a friend to read their cards. This ruins the secret of the game and takes away their independence.

Who it helps

Visually impaired and blind kids, their sighted friends, families, and schools that want everyone to play together naturally.

How it works

Visually impaired and blind players can now hold and read their cards secretly using their fingers. They can also find the draw and discard piles easily. This turns Taki into a fully independent and shared game with sighted friends.

A comprehensive industrial accessibility kit featuring Braille-embossed Taki cards, 3D-printed ergonomic card holders for fingertip scanning, and a central deck organizer to bound the gameplay area.
