AIC - Visual Detection of Objects
About this project
AIC is a speech-generating device (SGD) producing a matching voice output of objects (i.e. wires of different colors) through visual detection. The device can correctly identify colors and verbally report back to the user.
The challenge
Oftentimes at the Migdal Or factory, workers have trouble connecting the correct color wires to their corresponding places because they have trouble detecting the color of the wire. This leads to broken and faulty devices. Kalbo requested a solution to help his workers match the correct color wires.

How it works
Our Need-Knower was Shmuel Kalbo, manager of quality assurance and technology at the Migdal Or factory - an electronics factory that employs visually impaired and blind workers. Our device aims to assist people who are visually impaired in the workplace.
We don't think the visually impaired and blind should limit their career options based on their visual impairment. The project will allow factories to employ a large number of workers with visual disabilities, and create more job opportunities for them.
A speech-generating device (SGD) producing a matching voice output of objects (i.e. wires of different colors) through visual detection.
In addition, the device has a validation mode, making sure the workers have connected all the wires properly.
Characterization of the gap, the inability of visually impaired employees to distinguish between different objects used in their work, and finding a common denominator - so that a computer vision algorithm can perform the diagnosis.
