Baruch's Bag

Baruch's Bag - open-source assistive technology concept by the Leffell School community

About this project

The team created a multi-pocket bag that fits over the armrest of Baruch's wheelchair and allows him to access things like his computer, headphones, chargers, and books, without needing his aid to be present. They also worked hard to make the bag fit on the wheelchair without voiding the warranty. They also 3D printed personalized tags that make it easier for Baruch to grip the zippers.

The challenge

Baruch is wheelchair-bound and has a lot of difficulty accessing his belongings and he relies on his aid for a lot of things, including grabbing items from a bag on the back of his wheelchair.

Who it helps

Baruch is a young man from New Jersey with a neuromuscular disorder known as Nemaline Myopathy. He describes it as "making his muscles extremely weak,". He graduated from Rutgers University and now works as a warehouse manager.
