Biogaming Headband

Biogaming Headband - open-source assistive technology concept by the Johns Hopkins community

The challenge

This project is needed to enable accessible gaming and promote rehabilitation for individuals who cannot use traditional controllers, by leveraging preserved head movement to provide both functional control and therapeutic exercise.

Who it helps

Individuals with quadriplegia or severe upper-limb mobility impairments, users seeking accessible, hands-free gaming interfaces, and individuals undergoing neck mobility rehabilitation through interactive systems.

How it works

It maps head motions to game actions, allowing users to play without their hands. This overcomes mobility barriers while also encouraging neck movement, supporting rehabilitation and improving strength and range of motion.

The BioGaming Headband is a wearable device that uses an accelerometer and an Arduino to detect head movements and convert them into game controls, enabling hands-free gameplay for users with limited limb mobility.
