Percussive Maintenance

Percussive Maintenance - open-source assistive technology working model by the California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo community

The challenge

Luke is a lifelong drummer who recently lost his left thumb, setting him back years of practice. Without his thumb, he can't use matched grip, forcing him to use his wrist instead.

Who it helps

Thumb amputees with a passion for drumming.

How it works

This prosthetic will extend the thumb to allow the fingers to move the drumstick instead of the wrist, and provide a channel for the drumstick to sit in. The material of the channel will have decent give to resemble a thumb pad.

A 3D printable prosthetic thumb customized specifically for matched grip drumming on the left hand.

Tools needed

PC or MAC I7 +
