Boost Plus Shake Opener

Boost Plus Shake Opener - open-source assistive technology prototype by the New Jersey Institute of Technology community

The challenge

Riddhi, who lives with dystonia, struggles with tasks like opening bottles due to tremors and limited muscle control. We created an accessible Boost bottle opener to help her and others like her open bottles with ease and independence.

Who it helps

We designed an accessible Boost bottle opener to assist individuals with fine motor challenges or limited grip strength, making it easier to open bottles without requiring significant pressure.

How it works

The design uses a comfortable grip and ridges that match the cap shape, making it easier to twist open without strong hands or fine motor control. It helps users with conditions like dystonia open bottles smoothly, with less strain and greater ease.

The opener’s ergonomic handle and cap-aligned ridges reduce the pressure and grip strength needed to twist off Boost bottle caps. This allows people with fine motor challenges to open bottles more easily, safely, and independently.
