External Fixator Pin Cap

External Fixator Pin Cap - open-source assistive technology product by the TOM Israel community community

About this project

This product features flexible + customizable 3D-printed TPU caps with a rounded top, designed to cover the sharp ends of metal fixator pins. They're parametrically modeled for easy size adjustment to fit various pin diameters.

The challenge

Exposed fixator pins can snag on fabrics and/or skin, causing discomfort and injuries. Current commercial solutions are often not accessible, customizable, or affordable, especially in areas with limited resources.

Who it helps

These pin caps were originally designed for Moshe and Alexei during a TOM: Tel Aviv clothing customization effort, but can help anyone with an external metal fixator with exposed sharp edges.

How it works

The TPU pin caps provide a soft, protective covering, reducing snags, tears, and skin abrasions. Their rounded, customizable design ensures a snug fit, improving comfort, reducing garment damage, and increasing safety for fixator users.
