Foot Eversion Wedges for Standing Frame

Foot Eversion Wedges for Standing Frame - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

The challenge

A standing frame is used in physical therapy to support patients who are severely weak or paralyzed in an upright position. However, patients with increased muscle tone in their feet may struggle to stand properly, as their feet cannot rest flat.

Who it helps

Physical therapy patients can place our adjustable device on the foot plates of a standing frame to gently bias their feet toward eversion, helping them lie flat for proper support.

How it works

Our device will bias a patient’s foot towards eversion at varying degrees.

Our solution prevents physical therapy patients' with increased muscle tone feet from rolling to the outside while using a standing frame.
