Interactive Light and Sound Pyramid

Interactive Light and Sound Pyramid - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

The challenge

Children with visual and motor impairments struggle to play with standard toys, limiting their ability to engage with peers. A toy with light-touch buttons and lights provides accessible play, helping to support social development and fine motor skills.

Who it helps

Daycare students with visual impairments and/or motor deficits.

How it works

The pyramids buttons and lights make play accessible for impaired students, while its multi-sensory design fosters dexterity, creativity, and social interaction. Accommodating multiple children at once, it encourages peer interaction and communication.

A multi-sensory light and sound pyramid with interactive LCD screens, large light up buttons, and a giant glowing pegboard for accessible play.
