HEART Brush: Holdable and Moldable Handle, Easily replaceable head, Adaptive, Rotating, Toothbrush

HEART Brush: Holdable and Moldable Handle, Easily replaceable head, Adaptive, Rotating, Toothbrush - open-source assistive technology working model by the University of Pennsylvania community

The challenge

This toothbrush is designed for those with limited dexterity to be able to brush their teeth and reach all areas of the mouth. Through this device, we seek to maintain proper health and prevent gum disease by allowing rotation and pivoting of the brush.

Who it helps

Our design enables those with limited dexterity, who are unable to rotate a toothbrush on their own, to brush their teeth. For example, those with prosthesis. Vince sought a design that will enable independent brushing.

How it works

The design allows those with limited dexterity to reach all areas of their mouth through a pivoting toothbrush head instead of having to rotate their hand to reach the areas of the mouth. The moldable handle (putty) enables easy gripping and independence.

Our design is a toothbrush that has a moldable handle and a toothbrush head that can pivot to reach all areas of the mouth. This design, fully 3D printed, enables for the toothbrush head to be replaced to maintain ease of use and widespread accessibility.
