How can we protect those working in access points?

How can we protect those working in access points? - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Medellín community

About this project

The protective booth for personnel access points includes various parts and accessories, all made with the intention of creating a safer environment for the staff at the access points and the people around them. Unquestionably, the protective cabin is the main piece of our design since it is where the personnel at the entrance is completely safe while developing its tasks. It is a cabin that covers the front and sides of the person, made of PVC pipes and acrylic screens that protect the person in it from any type of germ, contact, or saliva. In addition, our design has a Gun Type Digital Infrared Thermometer which will serve to take people’s temperature when passing through the cabin. The person in the cabin will have the thermometer, and when a person arrives at the entrance he will take out the thermometer through a hole in the acrylic screen and without any physical contact will determine if the person is in good health conditions to enter the place. Furthermore, right next to the cabin will be located a pedal-operated gel dispenser made of PVC tubes which will be used on a mandatory basis for people who are close to the cabin. The dispenser will have a specialized Antibacterial gel with expert approval called Klaxin fco x 60 tan, (this gel has no side effects on people’s bodies). In addition, our design includes a disinfectant shoe mat made from cheap and recyclable materials, such as a 20-liter bottle, artificial grass, and foam. This accessory will be located just in front of the cabin and will be used by everyone entering this space. Finally, our design is open to receive your own variations that best suit your own needs.

The challenge

In situations where social distancing can’t be kept, there must be special measures taken to protect those involved. People in access points need our help in order to be safe and protected from COVID-19.

Who it helps

Access points personnel and their families
