Inclusive Cycling Solution

Inclusive Cycling Solution - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

About this project

A novel bike trailer that can attach to any bicycle, and allows seniors and PWD to actively cycle. The bike trailer has a revolutionary payload to weight ratio of 18:1 which was optimized and designed with Fusion 360's Generative Design feature.

The challenge

56% of people with disabilities (PWD) does not engage in any leisure physical activity. This put them (along with elderly) a higher risk of getting chronic diseases. With GaiGai, we aim to physically involve them in the cycling process.

Who it helps

With the help of Engineering Good and SGEnable, we get to know Gordon. Gordon is an elderly who suffer from visual impairment. Trained in mechanical engineering, he aims to design an all-inclusive mobility device that everyone can use.

How it works

GaiGai is designed to allow elderly and PWDs to pedal at their own pace. It automatically adapts to different conditions and cycling intensities. The aim is to optimize the effort exerted by users aided by auto braking and gear shifting systems.
