Self-Lacing for Shoes

Self-Lacing for Shoes - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

This is to ease the use of shoes that need tightening and loosening for daily use, so they are able to walk in safe and comfortable shoes.

Who it helps

For the elderly, back problems or having difficulties in tying up shoes for daily use

How it works

With one end of the lace going into the spool, there will be force sensors on the module that will tell the module to tighten the shoe. There are also buttons on the module to make the process easier, without having them physically forcing the shoes.

With a one-time setup, there is no need to constantly tighten or loosen shoes for daily use
