Team Michelle- Hand warmers

Team Michelle- Hand warmers - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Columbia University community

About this project

This device is a fingerless glove for people with poor circulation in their hands and arms. The device takes into account the environment around the skin and can be manually or automatically set.

The challenge

Due to poor circulation, Michelle is almost always cold, especially in her hands and lower arms, causing her to feel extra fatigued and forcing her to layer up year-round. Heavily air-conditioned classrooms make matters worse, and she would like to find a solution which would allow her to keep warm while attending class.

Who it helps

Michelle is a ventilator-dependent quadriplegic and a non-traditional student at Columbia University.
