The prototype is made up of two parts: a connector to the wheelchair and the mechanism to secure the umbrella. The connector is permanently secured to the wheelchair to allow for other devices to be attached in the future. The mechanism to hold the umbrella is secure enough to not let wind or other external forces disrupt the umbrella, but is mobile to be adjusted to Carrie’s preference.
Our team’s goal is to design an umbrella that can attach to her wheelchair, so she can have her hands free to navigate herself around without getting wet.
Carrie has always had an issue with holding her umbrella and simultaneously moving her wheelchair.
