Sip-and-Puff Drive Mouthpiece

Sip-and-Puff Drive Mouthpiece - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Shepherd Center community

The challenge

The Shepherd Center strives to increase patients' independence when

performing activities of daily living such as using a powered wheelchair.

Who it helps

Intended users of this Sip and Puff Drive Mouthpiece are individuals that use

a sip and puff system to drive a power wheelchair.

How it works

The Sip and Puff Drive Mouthpiece decreases lip strain when using a sip-

and-puff straw by adding a larger surrounding cone to supplement the

smaller, traditional straw size.

The Sip and Puff Drive Mouthpiece is a small, 3D printed device that uses

an attachable cone shape to allow the user to easily blow into an existing

sip–and-puff straw.
