What solution can we propose so the children can do mobility exercises and stimulation at home? - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Medellín community

About this project

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, my team and I were presented with a brand new challenge! Quarantining has brought a new task to all parents, and our problem states just that. We had to find a way to establish strategies for parents that guide their children’s development of motor skills (Both gross and fine), and cognitive abilities by working with tools of daily use. Our final product was an extremely dynamic and easy-to-build design. PVC tubes, the main material in our design, were cut and calculated to fit 7 unique designs; one for each day of the week. Every day, there are different activities, that fit their own unique PVC design, as well as each meeting a specific purpose. For example: On Monday, the design focuses on fine motor skills. On Tuesday, the design focuses on gross motor skills. All of the materials needed to make our project are extremely easy to get since most of them are everyday items. Plus, pretty much all of them can be replaced for more affordable options, if necessary. Even if you do not want to use these designs, you can create your own! So look forward to the best option for your children, which is extremely affordable, as well as good en efficient on developing motor skills.

The challenge

All of those who have kids know how hard it is to provide them with ideal conditions for their physical and intellectual growth. This challenge looks to present an innovative product to continue the development of the generations of the future.

Who it helps
