DysPlay

DysPlay - open-source assistive technology working model by the Medellín community

The challenge

Dysplay is needed to combine motor therapy with cognitive therapy because in this type of disease we tend to forget that cognitive therapy is just as important as motor therapy. Brain development is especially malleable during the first 12 years of life

Who it helps

Juan Martin Macias Toro is a 9 year old student from The Columbus School. Juan Martin was born at 32 weeks, he was born prematurely and diagnosed with hypotonia and delayed motor development.

How it works

Video games are an important part of the lives of many children and adolescents, we wanted to adapt a video game taking into account the controls to use this technology, which is a challenge for him since they require a lot of fine motor development.

The solution we are offering is creating a jacket with gloves attached to use joint movements of the elbow, wrist, to control the device. This solution we consider to be short-term. Additionally, the second part is the use of the adaptable Xbox controls
